Hi there,
I have to start off this newsletter by acknowledging the elephant in the room.
@Dharmesh Shah, the founder and billionaire of @Hubspot, announced his domain name valuation tool (that's been out for a while), and I decided to post about it on 𝕏. More on that below.
Otherwise, it's been an uneventful week of coding away on @InsiderEmail.
I've been trying to put together a "story" about why I think email newsletters are better than all other media channels. Not the end-all, be-all. But better.
You can see the updated story at https://Insider.email.
And I know that email newsletters are not for everyone – I can't get my kids to check email to save their lives. But for the people who work in corporate jobs, they're the bomb. (Do people still say that?)
Here are my top 5️⃣-for-Friday domain tweets from this week.
Have a great weekend,
Mike
P.S. I curate top domain industry posts in Cyger Selects, emailed every Monday.

Dharmesh (@dharmesh) just put out an email announcing his domain value estimator at DomainEst.ai (redirects to AI agent on agent.ai).
If you buy, sell, or collect domains, try it out. I think it's one of the best available.
Here's how Dharmesh says it works under the hood:
First: It Gathers Recent Market Data
The agent vacuums up fresh domain-deal headlines and recent sales data to help inform the estimate. It's basically like knowing what similar houses in your neighbourhood sold for last month.
Second: It Leverages My Transaction History
I gave it access to my own private domain transaction data (and yes, I've bought and sold quite a few over the years including chat.com to OpenAI). This provides real-world data points that aren't publicly available elsewhere.
Third: It Scans Current Marketplace Listings
The agent then combs live domain marketplace listings to triangulate a better valuation, giving you context on what similar domains are currently listed for.
Fourth: It Applies Advanced Reasoning
Using OpenAI's o3 model, the agent thinks through all these factors like a seasoned domain appraiser would. Think Sherlock Holmes with a point to prove.
Fifth: It Shows Its Work
Instead of just giving you a number, you get the full reasoning in plain English, along with

Here's the thing:
I read his methodology, which sounded really good.
So I went and tried a couple of domain names in his valuation AI engine, and spot checking the data looked really good.
We know AI bots like to hallucinate, so this was the tricky part.
So then I say "I think it's one of the best available" and the world melts down.
Everyone comes out of the woodwork to tell me how terrible it is.
Many people were constructive, and I emailed Dharmesh and he was appreciative. In fact, he emailed me back yesterday and told me it was updated and less prone to hallucinate.
Give it another try and let me know what you think! 🤣
I still think that the @DNAcademy Valuation Worksheet (DomainAcademy.com/tools/) that I built is the best way to value any domain name.*
*If the valuation is done properly.

🥳 Got a quick response
🤔 No idea how to interpret the response

The buyer ghosted me.
Not sure what's going on, but I don't want to push it too much either.
I'll wait until next week and reach out to see what's up.
And if I can (fingers crossed) get this to pan out, then I plan to tell you all about it ‒ with all the details ‒ in an upcoming email of @CygerSays.

This is kind of slick.
My @InsiderEmail newsletter builder now allows me to feature a recent poll and a prior poll in the same thread, so that I can then add commentary below it.
BTW, the @CygerSays newsletter goes out tomorrow (Friday) morning at 5am Pacific.

Oh yeah, I added polls!
I think they look really slick.
I really need to launch @InsiderEmail, but I'm going to drag my feet as long as I can, because I can. 😅

When you know @DomainSmoke has put out his domain name list for the day and it’s time to go hunting for bargains.

C'mon, now. This post really deserved way more likes than it received! 😜
Congrats to the new Pope.
If you haven't seen the movie Conclave (2024) about the secretive and ancient process of selecting a new Pope following the death of the incumbent pontiff, it's worth a watch.
